Rojak and cendol delight in a hot afternoon

Today, I thought of the Indian uncle's rojak and cendol stall near my house.
It wasn't because of I was hungry ( I just had lunch then, mind you).

I recall months ago I was enjoying an afternoon snack at the stall with N.
It was a hot afternoon. Nothing fancy about the food.
But the cendol was cold and refreshing under the hot afternoon sun.

No candle lights dinner nor romantic song, but both of us enjoyed slurping the food and laughed ourselves silly.

...Simple things in life can bring much happiness.

Psst..if you want to know which stall I'm mentioning, ajak me for rojak/cendol anytime hahaha...

*I'm looking forward to N's return for our next visit to the stall :P

What I've been up to...

I just got tagged by Amidrin again. But sorry Ami, I won't be doing this tag because I just can't recall any most embarassing moments.

Brief reflection on the past 3 weeks.
  • dearie has went started his job relocation to HK (yahoo! I'm free! :P but it's no fun on the weekends without him)
  • CNY has came and will end today (eat, sleep)
  • Valentine's day has came and went (no celebrations this year)
  • work piling up for the year but good news I'm getting a good bonus this year! (yay~)
  • got a DBKL summons for parking at the restricted place (duh~)
  • am now busy discussing this year's workplan (yes, more work)
  • elections fever is on! (yes! this is the 1st time I'm voting, I missed the previous) So I'm also busy reading up politics in the news section, deciding who to give my vote to.
Hopefully I'll find more time (and mood) to write more posts here.

Scarifices before marriage & why you wear the wedding ring on the 4th finger

Last night, I was doing idling surfing and read some interesting posts which I would like share them here.

I came across an
interesting post about women by Twiggy. Speaking of which, makes me think about how much a woman sacrifices in her married life. I bet these sacrifces come along as we go about life, it's a continuous decision we've to make. Perhaps it's due to conventional perception of a woman's role in the family & the society, that these sacrifices are usually taken for granted. And failing to do so, that woman would be despised by the society.

As a woman, have you ever thought about :
1. How ready you are to make sacrifices?
2. If you are ready, what are the sacrifices are you willing to make? (eg. your work, time, dignity etc.)
3. Are you willing to compromise with your spouse?
4. If you are not willing to compromise or sacrifice your stuffs, are you going to "force" your spouse to do it instead?
5. If #4 doesn't work, will you think twice about getting married to the man you thought was your Mr. Right?

Of course there are more questions to think of, but it just got me thinking about the singlehood freedom I enjoyed currently. Of course there are certain sacrifices & compromises here and there, but I don't think it's not to a very serious of "magnificent" degree yet. But getting in a marriage is a big thing, it's a constant decision to stay true to your promises, to love your spouse and family, to be willing to give when the need occurs.

Also came across this interesting post by unknowngurl on
why the ring (especially the wedding ring) is usually worn on the fourth finger. You may have heard of it before, it is basically :
1. Position your hands as if you are praying, all finger tips on right hand touching the matching finger tips on left hand.
2. Except for the middle fingers, you have to bend them in towards the palm of each hand, while making sure the other fingers stay in position as in #1.
3. While making sure the remaining fingers are still touching, try to separate these finger pairs in this sequence: thumbs, second finger, last finger and the fourth finger.

You will notice that it's very hard to separate the 4th finger no matter how hard you try. You will feel the pain when you force them to separate. And how does this relate to which finger you wear your ring? Here's the interpretation:
  • Thumbs - your parents, you will leave them when you are independent, get married, and also they will leave you when they are of old age.
  • Second finger - your siblings, you will separate when you are all grown up and have your own families.
  • Last finger - your children, they will leave you when they are grown up and have their own families
  • Fourth finger - your spouse, both of you stick together through ups and downs, and through your lives. And if you try to separate, you will feel the pain!
Got it? :-) Speaking of which, did u read the news about this man from China proposed to his girlfriend on AirAsia's inaugural flight from GuangZhou to Malaysia? I don't know if this sounds romantic to you ladies out there, but I certainly don't think I want that :P Think of what you are going to do and how are you going to react for the rest of your flight? Ish..nothing romantic about it at all. But something good did come out of it, the girl consented of course, and AirAsia granted the couple free return tickets to Phuket.

Guys, since you always say that you are the brainier lot, come out with better way to propose ok? ;-)

Smell the grass

I woke up late this morning, then I lost one of my contact lenses while putting it on. Everything seems to be in a rush because I was late.

But as I was driving along the new KL-Putrajaya highway, the road was clear, no traffic jams. The weather was lovely, everything was at peace. I winded down the car windows, and breathe in the fresh air...I could smell the freshly cut grass..and the wetness of the after shower air...aaah~~ everything seems nice.

What a lovely start to a day, all the rushing just dissappeared.

Do you smell the whiff of CNY?

Went CNY shopping at Tesco with my family yesterday. Mom and lil sis have been telling me the place is packed like sardines last weekend, the cars were parked all over the place, and spilling over to the roadside. This time around, dad chose to go in the late afternoon, when the sun was blazing on the skin, and you could feel the heat the moment you step outdoors. He said that would be the time when the crowd was lesser.

I don't know how true was his statement though, as the place was crowded as usual. You would think the place was full of free goods, with people pushing big shopping carts and dumping stuffs into it.

Seeing is believing. I can't describe how true that statement is. Commuting only to the office and burying my head deep in the work pile, I felt left out of the CNY festive mood. I didn't even realise it was just a week away, and I haven't even submit my leave request (*oh, I've promptly done so the first thing this morning). But joining the crowd in shopping for CNY stuffs, I could smell CNY. Yup, it's near, and it's very, very near. I could almost touch it. You hear people talking about CNY, red and gold decorations everywhere, and TV stations have started airing CNY ads...oh, it does feel like CNY already.

Now, I should just aim to finish my work before end of the week, and I shall be off enjoying the CNY! yay~

Misery of being "ditched"

Ah...how true what is written in today's horoscope.. I just got "ditched" by my colleagues today. None of them offered to wait up for me for lunch..what a big disappointment. :( I had a scheduled telecon which overlapped the lunch hour a little.

The misery of being "ditched"... so sad.. i shall not let them ruin my lunch. So i strolled down to the cafetaria and picked my favourite spicy food, and enjoy a nice cold drink, while reading today's newpapers, and enjoying the afternoon breeze. hm..not so bad after all to be eating alone. It's good to have a "Me Time" after a busy morning.

But to give a little credit to my fellow female colleagues, they were kind enough to ask abt me when they returned from lunch. Well, I supposed they do missed me at lunch after all haha :P hmm...that makes me feel better hahaha.

My thoughts: Busy and Stressed

Familiarity breeds contempt. Routine becomes boredom.
When you have almost everything, you take it for granted.

Is that how things are supposed to be? Is it the nature of things to be that way? People are forgetful. They just settle into their comfort zone, and forget things still need to be work out to keep the things going.

It's not easy to get out of our comfort zones. Sometimes it is risky and needs courage, sometimes it is just right in front of us, but we are too lazy to initiate. Usually, early warning signs appear before we realised it. Sometimes it is not too late to mend things, if you heed the signs.

Thinking out of the box, think something different, think something new. It's easier said than done.

Lately, I have let myself lost in work. "Busy" has become my excuse. I am not giving enough attention, and keep losing my promises, both to myself and others. It wasn't that I did it consciously, but my body and mind was so tired that they refuse to keep the promises. I didn't realise that work really is taking a toll on my body and mind. A tired mind loses its creativity, innovative and interest. No wonder I'm starting to lose interest in most things. Except shying myself from others, and keeping my own thoughts. Is it just me, or do others have this too?

Sometimes when I'm free and carefree, many ideas popped into my head. And all of a sudden, I get the burst of energy to try new things. And it makes me feel good. I wonder where have all these went?

Should I blame it all on work stress? Nope, I don't think I deserve to. Everyone has to endure stress too. But I guess I have to learn to manage it, to let go once in awhile, take time to "look out of the window", "smell the flowers". I need to connect back with my circle of friends. Well, I read it somewhere in the mag, and they told me that works. I guess sharing with friends, makes you feel that you are not alone, and you see things in bigger perspective, and sometimes you get new ideas from sharing with your friends.

Time to get out of the box. But where shall I start?

busy & stressed,
firethorn

34. Nonsense poem @ 15:20

*~ This poem is pun intended ~*

driving around in the City,
met a DGJ crossing the road,
lucky thing a Wira saw it in the nick of time,
with a Cue Stick in hand.
like a magic wand it waved,
DGJ scooted across the road,
and Pot itself into a big Hole,
and thus DGJ was saved.

* DGJ = da-gong-ji (big rooster)

12. Silent Thoughts

I'm confused and lost. Lost my focus. Right now, I'm not sure the choice I made was the right one. Maybe I should have stayed longer and waited. The stars have indicated earlier, but I was not superstitious enough to believe it. I can't afford to regret now. No, not at this moment yet.

I came with passion and motivation, visualing what I wanted and hoped it would be. But all don't seem to be that when you are already in it. It took lots of patience and determination to be where I want to be today. I had my sets of beliefs and targets. I tried my best to plan and decide which was the best course. I did not decide this in haste, but yet, why do I hesitate at this moment?

I have no one to blame except for my own. Me and my ego and stubborness. I have never like admitting defeat on my own decisions. I have always shoulder on to prove my decision was right, and try to work things out my way. But why do I lack the strength now? Where's my faith when I need it most?

I got to remember my reasons for choosing this. My goals, my dreams, my beliefs. I just need more patience and stronger will, and not losing focus why I am where I am, doing what I'm doing. I will look back at my plans and have alternative plans. But anyhow I will hang on till I get my results. It's going to test my determination and patience again. I pray to god that I'm given this strength to carry on, and I'm thankful I have the support that I need.

Life's full of challenges. I hope I tide over this challenge and become a stronger and better person. God has His own way of guiding His beloved subjects. Tomorrow's another new day. Things will get better, it has to be. There's always hope. That's what keep us going.
